Entrepreneur and technology investor Eben Pagan once talked with renowned speaker and life coach Tony Robbins in a video about “the Daily Update”, a system for evaluating new hires. It’s pretty simple: Eben asks the new hire to answer three questions via email at the end of every workday:
- What they did today and the results they achieved.
- What are the problems or challenges that came up?
- What are the questions they have for you?
Doing the Daily Update takes only about five to 10 minutes. If it takes the new recruit longer than that, they’re doing something wrong.
By asking your new hire to do this for 30 days, you’ll learn so much about them – including whether they’re a superstar or not. Are they results-driven or activity-driven? Do they ask you any questions? Are they curious about things in any new way?
