Thinking about your marketing efforts for the year is always a good thing. We may already be halfway through 2021, but it’s never too late or to early to evaluate your small business marketing.
Here are several strategies you can try.
Update your content strategy
When talking about content, remember that Google is always changing their algorithm: How it shows up in the results page, what pages are ranking, why they’re ranking, and who sees them.
So if you’ve been using the same content strategy for years, now is a good time to change it. You need to regularly switch things up. One way is to…
Start a podcast
But everyone already has a podcast, so why pursue it in the first place? While it’s easy enough to start a podcast, you should aim to:
- Provide great content.
- Be entertaining (i.e. don’t be boring).
A podcast can be helpful to your small business marketing because you get to demonstrate your expertise in your niche. Plus, you get to educate your audience, and an educated audience is a better customer.
Moreover, this gives you a great opportunity to showcase your brand, who you are, the person behind the company.
Revamp your email marketing
Email is incredibly effective for small businesses, especially those who want to reach their customers. You may already have an email marketing strategy, but when was the last time you updated your content and how it looked? Or its schedule?
For best results, do some testing. Find out what days work best for you. Maybe it’s a Tuesday or Friday. Or perhaps it’s during weekends.
Just make sure your emails are displayed well on mobile, because increasingly more people are using their phones for every aspect of their lives, especially email. This revision will help you reach better business efficiency and achieve higher outcomes for the year.
Run social media ads
It’s common knowledge that the organic reach of a Facebook page is rather limited. In fact, many pages reach only about 1% of their audience when posting organically.
Others rely on boosting their posts, but this doesn’t work well.
Why? Because while boosting will promote your page/post, it doesn’t provide great placement. It also doesn’t use Facebook’s machine learning and algorithms, so a large chunk of your audience won’t see your boost.
But when you run ads to boost your small business marketing, specifically via Facebook’s business manager, you maximise the platform’s capabilities, which will get you preferred placing.
Make your journey personal
People want to feel connected, even in business, so you need to be part of that.
A great way to encourage your audience to collaborate with your business is to show them that you’re an actual person, and you employ actual people in the community.
You can make your journey personal by sharing your struggles of owning a small business, and your own hopes and dreams. Adding a personal touch will give people an opportunity to connect with you.
Perhaps you can tell your story of how you started your business, why you do what you do, what you did your kids during the weekend, and the things your employees are doing (e.g. going back to school).
By taking your audience on this personal journey, they’re going to want to continue to patronise your startup. It’s also a great way to grow your business and become part of your community.
Making your journey personal is a win-win small business marketing strategy.
