It’s not the first time I hear someone say that business owners outsource work because they are lazy; they don’t want to put in the effort; they don’t care about delivering high-quality products or services. Reality contradicts every single one of those claims. Let me explain.
Business owners who outsource are in fact very energetic and hard-working. They outsource because they want to achieve so many things, reach goals so important that they have to lengthen their day, to expand time. So far, science didn’t come up with a solution for this, so those business owners use what they can – they pay for other people’s time and skills. They need an affordable way to duplicate their attention and effort, without subtracting themselves from their personal lives. Outsourcing offers a competitive advantage to any new business that wants to grow fast and make an impact.
Business owners delegate some tasks not because they hate doing a particular type of work, but because they understand that strategic thinking and the time spent finding partners is more profitable than mundane tasks. The benefits of spending time consulting a big client or preparing for a speaking gig are far more significant than what it can be achieved by using the same time scheduling social media content for publication, doing data scrubbing, or answering support tickets. It has nothing to do with what an entrepreneur likes or hates doing; it’s all about what it makes sense from a financial point to delegate.
No matter how good someone is in his or her profession, the lack of enough time will always lead to poor quality work. Business owners understand this, and they outsource the positions they do not have the time to handle inside their organisation, in order to allocate enough resources for their craft/skill/knowledge – the thing that allowed them to start a business in the first place. This way everyone wins. If a marketing consultant spends time doing consulting work and not trying to fix bugs on the company website or manage the company’s social media accounts things work the way they should. The quality of the consulting work, website, content published through social media will all be first-rate.
